Construction Pre-Works, Community Engagement

Summerlea board members Christine Belter and Rusk Redmond regularly attend the meetings of the City of Edmonton’s LRT working group to receive the latest information and updates about the Valley Line West LRT and everything related to it. Here are the messages from the most recent meeting:

  • This year’s activities include the preliminary boreholes and site laydown.
  • The temporary transit centre, which is planned for the overflow parking lot along 90th Avenue, is a City of Edmonton project (not in the scope of the Marigold consortium who are building the LRT).
  • The City LRT communications is willing to give us two information sessions in May for Summerlea residents. They are proposing the last week in April, so stay tuned.

The latest construction notice details the pre-works starting on March 29 on 87 Avenue, 156 Street, Stony Plain Road, 104 Avenue, and 102 Avenue.

The Valley Line West LRT Work Begins

The City of Edmonton has chosen Marigold Infrastructure Partners to build the LRT for Valley Line West. And now that that’s finalized, the work can begin.

The City’s Communications Coordinator for the project keeps the Summerlea Community League up to date with events, next steps, and especially news of potentital traffic disruptions. As quickly as we can, we will turn around and bring you the news to you.

Here are the first notices of road work:

  • February 10 – 12 (tentative): 87th Avenue between 180th and 182nd streets.
  • February 16 – March 12: Near the West Edmonton Mall Transit Centre on 87th Avenue between 170th and 175th streets

They will be drilling of boreholes to check the ground conditions. This will help the City and Marigold in their detailed design work for the project.

Please see the construction bulletin for more details of the work and its impact.
