Land Swap and Rezoning

The surplus school site in the Summerlea Park will be swapped for land adjacent to the West Edmonton Inn. This will allow Summerlea to use the current surplus school site as a sports court, or for whatever we choose.

May 14, 2024 – City Presentation at the AGM identified that the swapped land will be proposed for affordable housing.

June 27, 2024City announced they are moving forward with the land swap. They will submit an application to rezone a 1 hectare portion of the park site that is north of the West Edmonton Mall Inn to RM23, which allows for a maximum height of 23.0 metres (approximately six storeys). 

July 23, 2024Notifications were mailed out to residents within a 120 meter radius.

July 29, 2024 to August 11, 2024 – Public feedback collected online

August 20, 2024 – City announced a tentative date for the Public Hearing of the zoning application – October 21. City Council will make a decision about the rezoning application as well as other decision points, including approval to sell the site below-market to an affordable housing provider.
